What the political pundits get wrong is the assumption that all voters in a political party vote a straight ticket, ignoring the phenomenon of Donald Trump. Knute Buehler finally saw the light this time around. (It’s too late for him in the Second Congressional District though. He’s now seen as a duplicitous flip-flopper who’s only prayer is that conservative candidate opponents split the conservative vote).
If we have truly courageous, non-equivocating Trump-supporting candidates, those candidates will pick up nearly 100% of the Republican base, a majority of Independents and unaffiliated, and a good chunk of Democrats, perhaps 15%. THAT is a winning strategy. Of course The Bulletin is uber-Left wing, and will never acknowledge this. And our typical conservative candidates have been intimidated into thinking President Trump is a liability.
Am I the only one to see this?
It’s mind-boggling to watch political commentators assume Oregon voters hate Donald Trump! Our voters are not so different from the rest of the country, and they are not stupid. It’s our candidates who have had the problem, offering the same old lean-left protocol..
With the economy and everything else getting so much better, I don’t know how to characterize Oregon candidates’ move-away-from-Donald Trump strategy as anything but cowardly…and in ignorance of the on-the-ground facts..
Elsewhere in the country, in November, watch the Trump landslide happen. Let’s see if our Oregoni candidates have stood up tall to take part in it.
